Teaching

teachingI am a qualified teacher (not many photography ‘teacher’s ‘are!). I am very experienced, and have taught young children how to take better pictures, teenage special interest photography, adult beginner’s, A level students, Under-graduates, semi-professionals, Art teachers (A level and GCSE). I also give business advice to those wanting to become professional.
I founded and owned a national photography teaching business until recently.

My style of teaching is friendly, none threatening, fun and inspirational.

Many photography teachers can come across as too technical or intimidating, especially to women…some men too!

I am passionate about releasing creativity in everyone, always with the ‘shooting from the heart’ at the core. Knowing how your camera works merely gives you the freedom to be creative. I teach the technical stuff in an easy and friendly way, too.

Photography is an Art Form, and I am on a mission to get people to remember this! I teach people to stop being ‘snappers’!

One-to-one tuition

I will be guided entirely by you…whether you want to just be better at composition, learn how your camera works, landscape photography, people photography, be more creative, or a mixture!

Wedding photography

I guarantee that I will get you through the day, whatever level or the circumstance.
We will look at absolutely everything you need to know, from kit, settings, essential shots, flash, tricky lighting situations, business advice if needed.
Every person will have different needs, so it’s always on a one-to-one basis, so that you get exactly what you need. No large groups here!

Art teachers

Many art teachers are now being asked to deliver Photography A level…as I said, Photography is a stand alone art-form, so needs to be taught as such.

I will cover Schemes of work, sketch books, and what the exam board is looking for. I teach both AQA and Edexcell at GCSE and A level. Darkroom techniques, film cameras, and I can also make sure that you can teach students to use their cameras properly. I also give advice on equipment you may need.
Everything to enable you to teach the subject! I also give on-going free support, should you need it.

A level/Under-graduate students

I will help you to get the best grade possible by helping you to have a great sketchbook, what to do for the assessment objectives, experimentation, select photographs for your projects, go through any technical aspects etc, advice on kit, what the exam board is looking for.

Photography training for corporate events:

I teach the basic photography to groups as a corporate or team-building exercise. These are often in the workplace or out in the field. I can also tech staff to photograph their own products etc.

Some clients have included:

Yeo Valley
Boxwood communications
The British Army
The Probation Service, Weston Super mare

Photo-Feedback:

If you feel that you would like regular help, advice and in-put for your photography, then I can help you to improve your photography dramatically in a much shorter time that you would expect!
All you have to do is send me 3 photo’s every month, on a given theme (by me), and I will give you technical and compositional feedback.

Quick-fix Feedback:

If you would like me to just cast an eye over a photograph, eg you’d like to enter a competition, then I’m really happy to give you instant feedback. (Within 24 hours)

Children’s courses:

I run children’s photography courses, usually in the holidays. It’s great fun, and children are extraordinarily creative! They are theme-based, and I teach them not to be ‘snap-happy’, just as I do with adults! They are learning a life-long skill.

Monthly photography group:

This is based in Malvern, and it is a light-hearted approach to photography, and learning to use your camera properly. There will be an emphasis on composition, as it’s not all about the kit you have!
I will give you a theme every month, and we will then review the photographs next month.
We will also go on photographic day’s out.
Absolutely any level of understanding will be welcome.
It’s non-threatening, and extremely friendly!

Nikon Owner’s Club (Cotwolds)

I am very proud to announce that The Nikon Owner’s Club have asked me to run their Cotwolds meetings. (Sorry Canon users!)

There will be a monthly meeting, usually in a different place each month, where we can talk all things Nikon, as well as discussing technical stuff and sharing our photographs.

It will be great fun!
